Elba's fifth collaboration with Rainforest Films also reteams him with Luther series one and two director Sam Miller for a thriller in which he plays the kidnapper of a former district attorney (Taraji P. Henson). Shooting is currently in progress in Atlanta for the film, written by Aimee Lagos and also starring Leslie Bibb, Kate del Castillo, and Henry Simmons.
In the wake of record ratings in the UK for the second series, Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for Elba for the first series, and Elba's Golden Globe win for the second series, BBC announced the commissioning of a third series for Neil Cross's detective saga. Given that Elba and series director Sam Miller are busy at work on No Good Deed, and co-star Ruth Wilson is busy with The Lone Ranger, not to mention Elba will be shooting Long Walk to Freedom for a number of months in South Africa, the exact date of production, much less an air date in either the UK or America, is still up in the air.
Elba is poised to make his big blockbuster starring breakthrough in the lead role (one not only once earmarked, but also developed, for no less than Tom Cruise) of Stacker Pentecost in Guillermo Del Toro's giant monster action/sci-fi extravaganza, set to be released July 12, 2013 release from Warner Bros.
Elba will reprise his role as Asgardian gatekeeper Heimdall in the superhero sequel, directed by Alan Taylor and set for release on November 15, 2013.
Elba is slated to play Nelson Mandela in Justin Chadwick's biopic of the South African civil rights leader and former president, written by William Nicholson. Shooting is slated for summer 2012.
